GRADE THREE STEVEDORE

PORTS

EMPOWERING A TEAM

“It's the best job I have ever had.”

What do you do at Qube?

I am a grade three stevedore and have been at Qube for over 14 years. Generally, I’m a foreman on Appleton Dock, so my main role involves unloading cargo from ships. This means rigging loads and instructing the crane and men to retrieve cargo out of the hatch. The most important objective is to keep everyone safe.

What do you like about your role at Qube?

It’s challenging, and there is always something different happening. I drive lots of different types of machinery, dealing with lots of different types of cargo. No two days are ever the same. The biggest thing for anyone considering becoming a stevedore at Qube is to keep safety as your number one priority.

What do you like about working for Qube?

I’m still here 14 years later, it has been a great job for me. In terms of training, there is so much variety, and training is offered for every piece of equipment you use. Training may consist of either internal training, or external licensing. Stevedoring is a very specialised field and we even undergo unique training for the cranes we use, as they float on water.
