Laura Shannon – Truck DriverEmployee Stories
Powering Freight in Western Australia
What do you do in your role?
I drive pocket road trains in Western Australia, which means that I am responsible for driving containers to the wharf and then loading and unloading with the forklift. I have always wanted to be a driver and have followed in the footsteps of my father and mother, brother and grandfather.
What do you like about your job?
I like the work that we do and I enjoy driving. I really like the people that I work with, they are great, and they welcome you as a female. Qube places a strong emphasis on career progression and there are definitely opportunities if you want to progress. For example, I have been given the opportunity to manage the fleet controller’s position when they are on leave.
What would your advice be to someone wanting to work at Qube?
It’s a big organisation and there are a lot of different divisions with opportunities. You don’t necessarily need to be exactly clear on what you want to do – if you have a passion for Qube and the business, there will be opportunities that will come to you. There’s quite a diverse range of activities that you can be a part of. My team are fantastic and the company’s management is great too.
