Qube New Zealand introduces market leading paid parental leave program.Assets

Eligible employees across Qube New Zealand’s logistics and ports operations throughout Aotearoa will have access to new, market leading paid parental leave benefits from 1 July 2025. These new benefits, which will be provided on top of the New Zealand Government’s legislated 26 week paid parental leave entitlements, include:

  • A Qube ‘Annual Leave Top up Payment’, which will see eligible employees accrue annual leave at their ordinary base rate while on Government paid parental leave.
  • A generous, one-off incentive payment, equivalent to six weeks’ pay, for employees returning to continuous work at a minimum of 80% of their equivalent full-time hours over six months; and
  • Five days Qube funded partners leave, ensuring that new mums, dads or carers who take Partners Leave, receive an income while spending time with their new family member.

Qube Managing Director, Paul Digney said the changes are part of Qube’s commitments to attracting and retaining the best possible talent and to an inclusive and diverse workforce. “Qube prides itself on creating family friendly workplaces, and these new market leading paid parental leave benefits will make our New Zealand operations an even more attractive place to work. Five days Qube funded partners leave, ensuring that new mums, dads or carers who take Partners Leave, receive an income while spending time with their new family member.

“Qube has grown significantly in the New Zealand market over recent years, and we now employ more than 1500 people across Aotearoa.”

“Our people are our best asset, so by investing in them with measures that go beyond legislated requirements and our peers, we’re also investing in our future as we look for further opportunities for growth.”

Mr Digney said the new benefits, which become available to eligible employees from July 1, applied equally to male and female employees who meet the definition of primary carer, and would bridge some important financial gaps for employees starting or growing a family.

“Qube’s Annual Leave Top-up Payment’ will ensure that an employee who takes parental leave will receive ‘full value’ for annual leave accrued while on leave, rather than the reduced rate provided under New Zealand law.”

“In addition, our increased paid partners leave entitlement will mean that a new mum or dad won’t have to choose between spending time with a newborn or a week’s pay, while our return to work incentive will help with the transition costs, such as childcare.”

“These are important policy changes that differentiate Qube New Zealand from many of our industry peers. We will continue to look for opportunities to further enhance our benefits over time, consistent with our promise to our people that what matters to them matters to us,” Mr Digney said
